The Man Who Sold the World is the third studio album by English rock artist David Bowie. It was originally released in the United States by Mercury Records on 4 November 1970, and then in April 1971 in the United Kingdom. He recorded the album with producer Tony Visconti at Trident Studios in London and Advision Studios in central London. The album's hard rock style was a departure from the largely acoustic music of Bowie's previous self-titled album

Produced by Tony Visconti. Album The Man Who Sold the World. The Man Who Sold the World Lyrics. We passed upon the stair We spoke of was and when Although I wasn't there He said I was his friend Which came as some surprise I spoke into his eyes, "I thought you died alone A long long time ago". Oh no, not me I never lost control You're face to face With the man who sold the world.
The Man Who Sold the World" is a song written and performed by David Bowie. It is the title track of his third album, which was released in the US in November 1970 and in the UK in April 1971. The song has been covered by a number of other artists, notably by Lulu, who had a UK No. 3 hit with her version in 1974, and Nirvana, whose 1993 performance of the song for the television program MTV Unplugged introduced it to a new audience.
In April 1971, it was released in the UK on the Mercury label with a striking photography by Keef (Keith MacMillan) of David wearing a dress. Mercury released The Man Who Sold the World with yet another cover in Germany. Commonly known as the round cover, this version is the rarest of the three Mercury releases. RCA reissued the album worldwide (along with Space Oddity) in1972 with a black and white Ziggy-era cover shot taken by Brian Ward. Scroll the images to view all four version of the album.
