New Wave music meant a lot of things in the late 1970s. It encompassed pretty much everything that followed the punk movement that still served as an alternative to mainstream pop and rock. There was power-pop, neo-psychedelia, acid-punk, art rock and lots and lots of keyboards. It helps that the source material was created by the great songwriting team of Doc Pomus and Mort Shuman and that their arrangement is so spare and open that it could be easily adapted for a rocksteady beat and Dave Wakeling’s blue-eyed soul vocalizing.

New Wave is Against Me!'s fourth full-length studio album and their debut album on Sire Records. Produced by Butch Vig of Nevermind fame, it was released on July 10, 2007. The album debuted at on the Billboard 200 on the week of its release. The album's first single, "White People for Peace", was released in May 2007, prior to the album's release. A second single, "Thrash Unreal", followed in July 2007. New Wave is the first Against Me! full length to not feature any acoustic tracks.

John Chidley-Hill: I think there are three reasons why journalists network. The first is obvious: trying to get a job. Second, you have to network with potential sources, contacts and media relations people. It shows potential employers that you’re committed to this career and it will also help you keep improving your craft. On top of that, if you can find someone to give you honest and constructive criticism, listen to them. I’ve been at this for seven years and I’m still learning and improving. Assuming that you’re a perfect, complete journalist at any point in your career – especially if you just graduated – will only limit your growth. You can follow John on Twitter dleyhill.

New Wave was movement that took the music world by storm. It changed the landscape of popular music and was one of the most important genres of the 1980s. New Wave bands were also aided by the growth of MTV, which helped visualize their songs, and reach a broader audience. Any list of New Wave bands has to include British bands like The Cure, Depeche Mode, Tears for Fears, Psychedelic Furs, Duran Duran, and The Police just to name a few. There are so many great New Wave bands that it's hard to limit naming them to just this few, but, that's the beauty of this list. If you like New Wave music, you should be familiar with many of the names on here.
