This album was limited to 16, so great versions by Stevie Wonder, the Four Tops, Sinatra, Fitzgerald, Frankie Valli, and others considered are not here, but the ones that made the cut are a lot of fun. Whether its Dusty Springfield's immaculate -five-second version, or Stanley Turrentine's nty-two-second reading, hearing this marvelous melody over and over is a delight. Only Dusty's version hints at the James Bond theme reference - that great bassline riff that comes after the chorus

Motown’s first single of 1972 all but declared the end of the label’s life in Detroit. The B side of the Four Tops‘ A Simple Game (a Moody Blues cover, cut in London with the Moodies as the session band) was a soft-psych confection, . Six months later, Motown announced the closing of its hometown offices. The Sound of Young America was now a California business.

Logically titled Motown Two, the album follows the same blueprint as the first record, offering highly polished, professionally produced, expertly performed interpretations of gems from the Motown vaults; it’s the sound of young America in the ’60s reinterpreted for the adults of the new millennium. While the sound is the same, there are a couple of important differences this time around.
