Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio Paintings outside this album. David with the Head of Goliath. Madonna of the Rosary with Saints Domenic and Peter Martyr. Caravaggio in his work always had a passion for painting from nature. He carefully prescribed every detail, trying to bring it to the original. It introduced a new Caravaggio in Rome for the genre - still life itself. If out of his genre works to remove whether human figures, fruits, tools, remnants of dinner, musical instruments, all these details will still continue to live their lives, showing a nearly independent center of attraction.

Caravaggio employed close physical observation with a dramatic use of chiaroscuro that came to be known as tenebrism. He made the technique a dominant stylistic element, darkening shadows and transfixing subjects in bright shafts of light. Caravaggio vividly expressed crucial moments and scenes, often featuring violent struggles, torture and death. His influence on the new Baroque style that emerged from Mannerism was profound.
Caravaggio's works constitute some of the most stunning works in the entire history of Western painting. Observing the evolution of his style from his early works (The Fortune Teller, Bacchus and Narcissus) to his major successes ( The Calling of Saint Matthew and Doubting Thomas) to his final paintings (David with the Head of Goliath) is like watching the tumultuous ups and downs of his life. Although chiaroscuro was used long before Caravaggio came onto the art scene it was he who defined the technique and darkened the shadows.
Caravaggio The Italian painter Caravaggio (1573-1610) depicted insolent boys and rough peasants in the guise of Roman gods and Christian saints. They are often portrayed as if emerging out of darkness, with part of their faces and bodies strongly illuminated. Michelangelo Merisi is called Caravaggio after the tiny town in Lombardy where he was born on Sept. His father, Fermo Merisi, who was a master builder for the local lord, died in 1584, and the young boy was apprenticed to Simone Peterzano, a mediocre painter in Milan.
