It had the working title Failure to Receive Repayment Will Put Your House at Risk, although most knew it as Big Ideas (Don’t Get Any). The band worked on it during the next decade. But was never satisfied with the results.

It became a fabled song among Radiohead fans but had never been onto disc by the band until In Rainbows in 2007. Guitarist Jonny Greenwood talked to New Musical Express December 8, 2007 about the recording of this song: "Thom will come and play a song like 'Nude' to you and obviously its good. You want to record it. But it's been hanging around for 10 years and you find yourself thinking, 'Why haven't we recorded a good enough version of this song?'

Nude was written in 1997, and the band began to perform it live soon after. However, a recording was not included on any Radiohead album until 10 years later. In April 2008 Nude became their most successful single on the Billboard Hot 100 since Creep in 1993. After 1998, the band initially planned the track for their next album Kid A (2000), but scrapped efforts to record it; the song did not appear on the band's next two albums, either. During this period, it was performed only rarely, notably on request at a 2002 concert in Salamanca, but usually by Yorke in solo acoustic versions.

In Rainbows is like a sigh of relief, a pre-apocalyptic album that’s obviously the work of a full band.
