Operator (12", Promo). Amongst those tunes was a vicious cut by Midnight Star. With the possible exception of Newcleus' 'Jam On It', there is no other tune that I would associate more with funky 80's underground than 'Operator'. Originally released at the absolute peak of electrofunk in the 80s, this track contains every nostalgic idiosyncrosy you'd ever want: sparkling sci-fi synths, monster bass line, phat drum track, not to mention a marvellous vocoder and rap verse.
This song is by Midnight Star and appears on the album Planetary Invasion (1984) and on the compilation Old School Funk (1996). Would someone please hang that phone up?! Operate that body, operate on meOperate that body, take control of meOperate that body, operate on meTake control of my body, take control of me. I call my baby up on the telephoneI got connected to a freaky zoneThe conversation was strictly voidSaid if you don't join the party, go home.
