Midnight Star is an American group that had a string of hits in the 1980s. The group was formed in 1976 at Kentucky State University by trumpeter Reggie Calloway, vocalist Belinda Lipscomb, calist Melvin Gentry, bassist Kenneth Gant, t Bill Simmons, keyboard player/vocalist Bo Watson and t Jeff Cooper, as a self-contained group. They later added non-KSU student trombonist Vincent Calloway (Reginald's younger brother).

Midnight Star's Victory is one of the best arranged, vocally chosen, written, and produced projects I ever listened to. I can't wait until my CD comes in the mail. SOLAR records releases Midnight Star's third album of which the band limited the use of their horn selections and went almost completely eletro-funk for the first time (something that they'll be most known for in time). In favor of changing their sound due to the significant shift in black music, they started to use Reggie Calloway's production talents to re-direct the band in the electo-funk age of Bootsy Collins, George Clinton, and Afrika Bambaataa.
