Elsewhere the singer and his partner, Stoney, trade off lines, feed off each other's energy, and generally elevate, with help from the session musicians, some second-tier material in gospel, soul, and psychedelic pop ("She Waits By the Window") veins. Worth picking up for a buck or two out of a used bin. Track Listing.

The album, titled Stoney & Meatloaf (sic, Meatloaf as one word), was completed in the summer of 1971 and released in September of that year. A single released in advance of the album, "What You See Is What You Get", reached number thirty-six on the Best Selling Soul Singles chart (the same chart is now titled Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs) and seventy-one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. During the audition Meat Loaf met his future collaborator Jim Steinman. Ron Silver and Fred Gwynne were also in the show.

Stoney & Meatloaf is a duet of singer Meat Loaf and Stoney (Shaun Murphy). They released one self-titled album in 1971. Meat Loaf and Murphy had met previously in the Detroit music scene, and then performed with the Detroit cast of Hair. Meat Loaf, whose name was styled "Meatloaf" on the album, had a minor hit "What You See Is What You Get". The duo disbanded when the record company cut out their vocals to "Who Is the Leader of the People?" and replaced them with Edwin Starr's vocals instead.
