An Appointment with Mr Yeats is the tenth studio album by The Waterboys, released on 19 September 2011 through W14/Proper Records. The album contains 14 tracks, all of which are based upon the poetry of . Yeats, a long term influence on lead-songwriter Mike Scott. Scott premiered the tracks which would make up the album, as well as those produced previously, as part of the An Appointment with Mr Yeats concerts from 2010 onwards.
The idea that the poetry of Ireland's William Butler Yeats could be set to rock music and captured adequately (let alone eloquently) by Mike Scott and his Waterboys sounds pretentious at the least. Yet, they proved it possible with "Stolen Child" on Fisherman's Blues, then with "Love and Death" off Dream Harder. The former was born a Catholic, became an atheist, and eventually found spirituality in nature and the occult.

Tracklistings come from MusicBrainz. Fishermen’s Blues, arguably the two most successful albums of The Waterboys’ career. Instead it takes the more MOR sounds of Dream Harder (1993), Scott’s first solo album in all but name – for which he also arranged another Yeats poem, Love and Death – and blends in a measured dram of his beloved Irish folk. It could have been a risky concept – accusations of pretension are never far from anyone who undertakes to put poetry to music – but Scott’s conviction, alongside his years of preparation, ensures that this is a genuinely successful experiment.
The combination of Yeats and The Waterboys is great. From the rock version of September 1913 to the pensive Song of the Wandering Aengus, there is not a bad track on this album. No "fillers" just the Waterboys at their best. Reply Notify me Helpful.
