Forgotten Liszt is an attempt to save some of them from oblivion and hopefully stimulate other singers to programme them in their recitals. No fewer than six of the songs on this disc are World Premiere Recordings. We learn that Benjamin Brecher is a much sought after tenor with more than 50 operatic roles in his backpack – many of them in bel canto repertoire – and he is also a busy concert singer and recording artist.
Some of the songs have never before been transposed. Instrumentation : Medium voice, Piano. Boosey and Hawkes Voice.
Few other piano solos have achieved such widespread popularity, offering the pianist the opportunity to reveal exceptional skill as a virtuoso, while providing the listener with an immediate and irresistible musical appeal. It is considered one of the most technically demanding works in the solo piano repertoire. Its themes have also served as the basis of several popular songs. The Hungarian-born composer and pianist Franz Liszt was strongly influenced by the music heard in his youth, particularly Hungarian folk music, with its unique gypsy scale, rhythmic spontaneity and direct, seductive expression. Liszt planned his choice of keys in a remarkably symmetrical fashion. Although the lassan's principal key is C sharp minor (with the appropriate key signature used throughout) the work opens on the tonic major chord, C sharp major. However, by bar 6, the minor tonality is established.

Liszt intended these highly challenging exercises to build greater performance skills in virtuoso pianists. The complete series consists of twelve volumes. I studied many years with Robert Goldsand, who studied with Moritz Rosenthal, who studied with FRANZ LISZT!!! One of the staples of the tecnical repertoire were the scales in Double Thirds and Double Sixths. You doubt there are any piano exercises you COULDN'T do with aplomb and finesse. My friend, it's time for these Liszt Technical Exercises to see what you're really made of. These are not simple exercises.
