Dinu Lipatti: The Master Pianist Plays Bach, Chopin, Liszt, Mozart, Grieg, Schumann, Bartok, Schubert (Icon). Among the words that come to mind when listening to Dinu Lipatti in this CD are the simplicity of his approach, the purity and spirituality of his playing and his poetry. The Bach Partita n. and the Mozart Piano Sonata no. 8 in A Minor, . 00 come from recording sessions at Abbey Road when Lipatti was in remission from leukemia due to cortisone shots which were new at the time and quite expensive. The Scarlatti sonatas are superb as are the Schubert Impromptus. It is a pity that Lipatti did not live to record more Scarlatti keyboard sonatas. These are among the finest perforamnces of Scarlatti keyboard sonatas I know together with those of Vladimir Horowitz, Maria Tipo and Ivo Pogorelich.

Lipatti's seminal Bach Partita No. 1 sits alongside his supreme Scarlatti, Mozart. BBC Music Magazine, August 2015, Mor. elease Date: 20th Apr 2015. God lent the world His chosen instrument, whom we called Dinu Lipatti, for too brief a space, said the legendary recording producer Walter Legge of the sublime Romanian pianist, who died aged just 33 in 1950. A musician of poetry, grace and finesse, whose playing was described as ‘perfection’ by Alfred Cortot, he chose to focus on a carefully defined repertoire – in this recital, works by Bach, Scarlatti, Mozart, Schubert and Chopin. This key part of Lipatti's small recorded legacy incluees some of the most cherished of all piano recordings.

Constantin Lipatti (from childhood called by the diminutive "Dinu") was born in Bucharest into a musical family: his father was a violinist who had studied with Pablo de Sarasate and Carl Flesch, his mother a pianist . Lipatti's piano playing was, and is, widely appreciated for the absolute purity of his interpretations, at the service of which he used a masterful pianistic technique. Lipatti is particularly noted for his interpretations of Chopin, Mozart and Bach, but he also made recordings of Ravel's Alborada del Gracioso, Liszt, Enescu, and the Schumann and Grieg piano concertos.
