Four Tet - 0181 Another day, another freebie that sets the internet alight-though to be fair, 0181 is a pretty generous offering even by the standards of today's content-hungry masses. This 38-minute, free-to-download album gathers sketches, castoffs and other miscellany Kieran Hebden recorded between his first releases as Four Tet in 1997 and his second solo LP, Pause, in 2001. The appeal of 0181, then, is largely a product of its structuring. This is more a mixtape than a sequenced album, with no tracklist and many of the 20-odd "tracks" just 30-second sketches that drop tantalising hints without outstaying their welcome. It's refreshing to hear Four Tet's ideas in a less precious context, less shackled to song form.
Label: Text Records – TEXT021. Format: Vinyl, LP, Album, Partially Mixed.
0181 - Four TetVia SoundCloud. Last November, BBC Radio 6 DJ Gilles Peterson released a mix that Kieran Hebden had done for the station back in 1999. It was the same year that the then-young producer had released his debut album Dialogue under the moniker Four Tet, and the set was quick to reveal the him as a quirky experimental producer whose approach built on the sound of his post-rock high-school band Fridge
Kieran Hebden (born 1977), best known by the stage name Four Tet, is an English musician. Hebden first came to prominence as a member of the band Fridge before establishing himself as a solo artist
on February 12, 2013, 12:01am. The freely-released Soundcloud record also serves as a nice entry point into that era of Hebden’s career; a nostalgic little photo album of sorts, complete with baby pictures in the form of some infant coos around the 17-minute mark. The fact that this is throwaway stuff for Hebden is astonishing, as he predicts or nails a wide variety of sounds, from Brainfeeder percussive virtuosity to smooth jazz cutups. As last year’s compilation record Pink showed, and as latest release 0181 reiterates, Hebden has a lot to offer, even among his scraps. Essential Tracks: N/A. Artists

Four Tet has posted new rarities album '0181' to his SoundCloud - listen to it below. Late last year the producer held an all-nighter in Brixton, inviting close friend Dan Snaith along for the party. Composed between 1997 and 2001, the material seems to bookend Four Tet's debut album 'Dialogue' - released on Trevor Jackson's now dormant Output Recordings imprint - and his 2001 full length 'Pause'. As such, the songs on show are heavy on jazz influenced breaks, near classical flourishes and left field electronics - there's even the odd dancefloor heavy moment, to keep you on your toes.
