Young Man with a Horn (BLP 5013) is the second studio album of Miles Davis, released as a 10-inch mono LP recorded and released by the Blue Note label in 1952. The album title is presumably a reference to the 1950 film Young Man with a Horn. It was Davis' only official album recorded or released that year, at a time in his career while he was struggling with heroin addiction. This was the first of three 10"LPs recorded by Davis for Blue Note in the early 1950s

Young Man with a Horn is a 10" LP album, released by Columbia Records as CL-6106 on March 13, 1950, featuring trumpeter Harry James and singer Doris Day performing songs initially recorded for the soundtrack of the movie of the same name. It was simultaneously released as a 78 rpm album set, Columbia C-198, and when Columbia finally began to release 45s about a year or so later it appeared as a boxed 45 rpm album set as Columbia B-198. History and Provenance. Although frequently identified as a "soundtrack," Columbia's Young Man with a Horn is not so in the literal sense. Columbia did not issue original soundtrack recordings at the time, and as both Day and James were Columbia contract artists they were obliged to re-record their selections from the movie for records, which they did in three sessions in Hollywood between January 25 and January 27, 1950.
The 1950 film Young Man with a Horn proved to be a pivotal point in Doris Day’s career, as it represented her first major screen dramatic role. The soundtrack gave her an opportunity to return to big-band music, this time with Harry James leading the band. Naturally, the tunes in the film leaned toward the familiar, but those standards - The Man I Love, Get Happy, I Only Have Eyes for You, Too Marvelous for Words, among others - provided an excellent showcase for Day’s appealing voice, along with James’ forceful solos
