Linda Clifford (born June 14, 1948, New York) is an American R&B, disco and house music singer and actress, who scored hits from the 1970s to the 1980s, most notably "If My Friends Could See Me Now", "Bridge over Troubled Water", "Runaway Love" and "Red Light".
The album features a disco-styled cover version of the title track, which peaked at No. 68 on the Hot Soul Singles chart and No. 54 on the Billboard Hot 100. Another single, "Runaway Love", also charted at No. 3 on the Hot Soul Singles chart and No. 76 on the Billboard Hot 100. Linda Clifford (born 14 June 1948, New York City, New York) is an American R&B, Disco and House music singer and actress who scored hits in the 1970s, 1980s, 1990s into the new millennium. Clifford is also a former Miss New York State, and fronted a jazz music trio before switching to R&B. After winning her title, Clifford started working as an actress, receiving minor roles in major films like The Boston Strangler with Tony Curtis and Henry Ford, Coogan's Bluff with Clint Eastwood and Sweet Charity with Shirley MacLaine.
In 1978 Linda Clifford released an album entitled If My Friends Could See Me Now featuring a disco version of the Sweet Charity number of that name. I’ve always been a theatre buff, so this a no-n. .Then they recorded anyway and brought it to me, and I said, ‘Ooh, I like that. In the UK If My Friends Could See Me Now was issued as the A-side of a 7″ single – with Runaway Love as the B-side – in May 1978 failing to become a major UK hit with a peak of on the UK chart dated June 24, 1978.
