Uomo di pezza is an album by the Italian progressive rock band Le Orme. It was released in 1972 and was one of their best selling works, which won an Italian award disco d'oro. Compared to the previous album, it shows many more classical elements: the opening of the album, for example, is a chaconne of Johann Sebastian Bach, played on piano by Gian Piero Reverberi.

Le Orme's Uomo Di Pezza is the first RPI album I purchased, and in many ways it represents the prototype of the genre for me. This is not inappropriate, as all of the classic elements are here: romantic themes, soaring melodic Italians vocals, and heavy classical influence.

Uomo di Pezza (1972) renews the collaboration between Le Orme, producer Gian Piero Reverberi and Philips record label, on which the group debuted the previous year with Collage. As with the previous work, rock and pop are mixed with symphonic elements, creating another cornerstone of Italian progressive rock. This is the album of the popular Gioco di bimba, one of the most famous Le Orme’s songs, also released on 45rpm at the time

Uomo Di Pezza is quite mellow – perhaps too much so in some places, but the overall quality of the music is impossible to deny. The only other complaint might fall to the short duration of the album: these themes could have been worth exploring even more. But even if it is relatively short, Le Orme simply created some of the most beautiful prog with this particular set of songs. Thankfully, more great material followed, with Felena E Sonora (1973) and Contrappunti (1974) rounding out a classic trilogy from the group. These albums would effectively bring a close to their streak of success.
