Tennessee Stud is featured on Cash’s 1994 album American Recordings, the album was produced by Rick Rubin on his label of the same name (American Recordings). The album’s sound was minimalistic, the songs containing only Cash’s own guitar and vocals. With the exception of 2 songs recorded at a live performance, the album was recorded modestly in Rubin’s living room and Cash’s cabin. The album peaked at 23 on the Billboard country charts that year and won a Grammy award for Best Contemporary Folk Album
