The album retained the band's epic sound while showing increasing influences ranging from jazz and blues to the Beatles, the latter being evident on the hit single "Sowing the Seeds of Love" (the first record ever played on the Irish-based longwave radio station Atlantic 252). Orzabal, still working with Griffiths and Palmer, released another Tears for Fears album, Raoul and the Kings of Spain, in 1995. This was a more contemplative work that delved into his own Spanish heritage and showcased a new Latin musical influence (Raoul was originally the name Orzabal's parents wanted to give him, and is also the name of his own first son). Orzabal stated that it was not a concept album but that there was a theme, namely that of familial relationships.

God's Mistake" is a song by the British band Tears for Fears, featured on their 1995 album Raoul and the Kings of Spain. The song was the first single taken from the album in the United States and Canada (where it was a minor hit), but the second to be taken from the album in the UK (following the release of the title track). I bought this album about four years back, and I really liked it, but not as much as Elemental or Seeds of Love at the time, because it wasn't as big in sound, that Tears for Fears sound I'm used to. But that changed after repeated listenings It was a little more understated. Roland's vocals, also, are a little more understated. But after repeated listening over the first year, I found I always listened to this CD more than Elemental, Seeds of Love, SFTBC. It is almost a concept album, and I love throwing this on at home and listening.

The second Tears for Fears album following Curt Smith's departure finds Roland Orzabal treading water (and self-consciously deep water at that). There's some genuinely pretty, if unexciting, music like the piano-driven ballad "Secrets," with it's soaring guitar line, and the gentle "Sketches of Pain
