Autobahn is the fourth studio album by German electronic band Kraftwerk, released in November 1974. It was the band's first album to fully embrace the repetitive electronic sound they would become known for, although organic instruments still remained part of their sonic palette, and was inspired by the titular German highway system

This particular album, Autobahn, is Kraftwerk's fourth album, and the first album that the members of Kraftwerk actually like. Unlike the previous three albums, Autobahn has much more noticeable music structure, and is far less experimental than Kraftwerk's previous albums. It brings so much into the equation that Kraftwerk hadn't used before, and from the first 3 minutes of the lengthy title song, it's blatantly obvious. The first track, meant to stimulate traveling, is what many people consider to be the highlight of the album

It was the band’s first album to fully embrace the repetitive electronic sound they would become known for, and was inspired by the titular. The album was included in the book 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die.

Although Kraftwerk's first three albums were groundbreaking in their own right, Autobahn is where the group's hypnotic electronic pulse genuinely came into its own. The main difference between Autobahn and its predecessors is how it develops an insistent, propulsive pulse that makes the repeated rhythms and riffs of the shimmering electronic keyboards and trance-like guitars all the more hypnotizing

It is co-produced by Conny Plank, and was the band's first track to use sung lyrics. Recorded in 1974, the song is designed to capture the feel of driving on a motorway. A version of the song lasting over 22 minutes was recorded as the title track of the album Autobahn.
