But Post-Punk has never been only Joy Division and the Cure, as absurd as it may seem to many. The British collective Autobahn is here to both bathe in the sameness of the revived version of the genre, but also to subtly show middle fingers to all their contemporaries. In a lot of ways is The Moral Crossing pretty much just like the rest of the revivalism stampede. It is dark, gloomy and uses all the same instrumental tricks and tropes solidified by the slightly echoic production. But what makes it different are the atmosphere and the multilayered musicianship that somehow creates a whole new.

These UK post-punks made a sizable dent with their debut album, and here they extend deeper into electronica with synth effects to their ’80s influences. A listen as dark as the cover art hints at, though they may take their name from a Kraftwerk album, these 5 guys have more in common with Ian Curtis and Robert Smith, blending alt-rock, goth-rock and New Wave into an emotive, harrowing, and, at times, especially with the occasional strings, a soothing journey into driving, visceral melancholy

Autobahn makes a very recognizable kind of dark, dramatic ave music, and the easy thing would be to dismiss them as a mid-1980s knock-off. But The Moral Crossing is a very enjoyable record from a band that is already pushing the contours of its sound to find its own center.
