Basement Jaxx - Good Luck feat.

Album · 2006 · 14 Songs.

Crazy Itch Radio is the fourth studio album by English electronic music duo Basement Jaxx. The album features Linda Lewis and Swedish popstar Robyn among the guest vocalists. The album was listed on several publications' year-end lists, including The Observer and PopMatters. The Crazy Itch of life is the thing that inspires and motivates you to act," explains Felix Buxton about the title of the album.

Crazy Itch Radio isn't a bad album by any means; it just doesn't scream "best album of the year" from the moment you put it on. On the other hand, it could be a brand new kind of Jaxx album: A grower, one that doesn't exhaust you the first time around the track but one that accrues meaning and gets more enjoyable with each new spin. It's certainly less front-loaded than their first three records.

Out pops Crazy Itch Radio, a disc loosely wrapped around the concept of the duo running their own station. They could have just as easily sold this as an original cast recording to a nonexistent stage production. Then again, the music is so color-packed, so off-the-wall that it could also work as the soundtrack to Rat Fink renderings of scenes from a movie dreamed by Baz Luhrmann.

Basement Jaxx is an English house music duo comprised of Felix Buxton and Simon Ratcliffe that rose to popularity in the late 1990s. Basement Jaxx started in Brixton, South London, UK in 1994, where they held a regular club night called Rooty, which would later become the name of their second album. The duo got their name from the location of the studio where they recorded their first EP - it was located in the basement of friends of Simon Ratcliffe. In addition to their own work, Basement Jaxx have become in-demand remixers.

I don't know why this album gets dogged...it's friggin' brilliant. Very creative instrumentation, extremely catchy songs, excellent album flow...even the interludes are interesting. Yes it's more commercial than their previous 3 albums (none of which I'm not trying to discredit of course) but doesn't mean this a bad album!

It seems I have this version of the album since it's the lenticular slipcase version. However, the code that's written on the disc is not "IFPI LU81", it's "IFPI KA07". Does anyone have an explanation for this?

What happens when the hottest things in house music reach the point where they're no longer the hottest? Can they still keep relevant? This is the question that haunts Basement Jaxx's _Crazy Itch Radio_. These musical polyglots can still craft cracking tunes, whether the banjo-smacking and strings of "Take Me Back to Your House," the Jewish klezmer horns in "Hey You," or the gospel/Bollywood stomp of "Everybody." But you also get the feeling that they're recycling several of their earlier ideas. The "Hush Boy" recalls "Red Alert" from their debut album _Remedy_, especially with the screeching chorus. "Hush Boy" also has much sillier vocals. Even "Everybody" starts off suspiciously like "Breakaway" from _Rooty_ before it finally moves into its own. Their slower tracks like "Lights Go Down" and "Keep Keep On" show that they're not always about the beat... even if that's where their strength is. So while this album isn't a revelation, it's plenty fun for everyone.
