Description

Remedy is the debut studio album by English electronic music duo Basement Jaxx, released in May 1999 by record label XL. The album was very well-received critically, and reached number 4 in the UK albums chart. Four singles were released from the album: "Red Alert", "Rendez-Vu", "Jump n' Shout" and "Bingo Bango". When Basement Jaxx first rose to stardom, the duo was unsatisfied with the state of dance music, describing it as "linear" and "close-minded".

Album · 1999 · 15 Songs. A decade after acid house first swept the UK, the South London duo went back to basics, supercharging tunes modelled on New York acts like Masters at Work with a heavy dose of funk. Tearing up the rulebook, they threw in salsa keys, Spanish guitars, speed-garage basslines and Caribbean toasting; the result is an antic celebration of dance music at its most boisterous. Remedy Basement Jaxx.

And then forget all that. Basement Jaxx refine their broad influences into a creative energy you can feel: The art of their noise supples as much dance motivation as their beats. On a typically atypical track like "Red Alert," a sharp, steady groove is subverted by a succession of P-Funk chanting, G-funk synth screeching, string-section interludes, furious bass doodles and sassy diva wails. Despite the diversity, Remedy radiates a personal.

Finally, Basement Jaxx's long-awaited full-length, Remedy, has been issued in the . It's aptly titled, to be sure: the production duo's record is a remedy to the dull, faceless house and techno that populates dance floors. The duo are unrepentantly pop savvy, bringing vocals and lyrics to their unique blend of electro, house, hip-hop, salsa, and soul. It's a weird combo, but like the best of all pop songs, Basement Jaxx tracks stick like putty to the ears within a few listens. The songs in this album are full hypnotic beats that if nothing more, get your head bobbing. Known for the singles "Rendez-vu" and "Red Alert," which are the two most danceable songs on the album, there are quite a few more.

With album sales of more than 3 million under their belt including their legendary debut album Remedy and 2005’s double platinum UK N. collection The Singles, Basement Jaxx have also developed into a remarkable live act – an all out sensory assault featuring live musicians, an army of singers and dazzling visuals which has graced The Hollywood Bowl (twice), rocked. Alongside this, the Jaxx have consistently explored other musical avenues including a (then) unique album collaboration with the Netherland’s Metropole Orkest ( Basement Jaxx Vs. Metropole Orkest ) which had it’s UK live debut at the Barbican in London in 2011; the first Basement Jaxx movie score, for Joe Cornish’s Attack The Block ; and 2014’s collaborative song project, Power To The. People.

You know it is a good pressing when your worn out DJ copy that you paid too much for still sounds excellent. Awesome album to boot.

Stop 4 Love is the gem hiding in the background, great tune. . . . . .

This album was huge when it came out, but after 18 years... there's not much left of it. A lot of quality music has been made since.

Yes, i have found a difference between the original UK vinyl and the Canadian cd version. Mostly, the intro on Red Alert is much longer.

So just picked this up and the version of Rendez-Vu has a longer intro than what i have digitally. Was there a CD/vinyl difference? Anyone know?

Basement Jaxx’s first proper album comes out of the gate like gangbusters. There’s the trifecta of “Rendez-Vu,” “Yo-Yo,” and “Jump N’ Shout” followed by the funky and enigmatic “U Can’t Stop Me.” The second half of the album, however, doesn’t show the same strength. The Latin stomp of “Bingo Bango” has some of that rogue spirit when it abandons its typical structure for some squealing synths. The final track, “Being With U,” once again picks up the DIY spirit that Basement Jaxx have come to embody, and it’s a perfect capper to a strong, if imperfect, album. Remedy might not treat all your symptoms, but it’ll sure make you feel better.

Basement Jaxx is an interesting concept. they mix house with drum'n'bass and the neodisco thing and have no fear to make themselves ridiculous. i think they are more 'p-funk' than others might claim themselves. some tracks are silly, some get on the listeners' nerves, but the album works. and there are two really great tracks on it: "always be there" - a dramatic dnb-house-something (with very good female vocals) that explores the frontiers of the mind, and "don't give up" which comes without a real beat.
