How I Quit Smoking is the second studio album by American rock band Lambchop, released on January 30, 1996 by Merge Records. The song "The Man Who Loved Beer" is an adaptation of the poem "The Man Who Was Tired of Life" from the ancient Egyptian text Dispute between a man and his Ba (c. 2000–1700 BC). The song in turn was later covered by David Byrne. All tracks written by Kurt Wagner, except where noted.

Lambchop began in the 1990s, at the time pronouncing itself Nashville’s most fucked-up country band. Provocative it may have been, but the description made sense: at the heart of all that ruckus was a band at once defying and embracing the musical legacy of its hometown.

Lambchop hails from Nashville and claims to play a "refined, and redefined" style of country music, but the songs the band creates on its second album, How I Quit Smoking, have more in common with Brit crooners the Tindersticks than Chet Atkins and Billy Sherrill (whom the Lambchop members claim as heroes). Boasting 13 players on this album, Lambchop feels more like an art collective on a mission of enlightenment than a country band bent on AM airplay.
