The Flock (LP, Album). Cbs, cbs. S 63733, S63733. The FLOCK - Store Bought, Store Thought (1969) RARE PROG.
The Flock was a Chicago-based jazz-rock band that released two records on Columbia records in 1969 (The Flock) and 1970 (Dinosaur Swamps). The Flock did not achieve the commercial success of other Columbia jazz-rock groups of the era such as Chicago and Blood Sweat & Tears, but were most notable for their inclusion of a prominent violin in their recordings. The violinist, Jerry Goodman, went on to considerable notoriety as a member of the Mahavishnu Orchestra and as a solo artist.
The Flock biography Signed on the CBS brass-rock craze after BS&T's mega success, than CHICAGO TRANSIT AUTHORITY's much more prog success, Columbia signed also the eclectic ILLINOIS SPEED EXPRESS, the psychedelic AORTA and the brassy THE FLOCK, all three also from Chicago and releasing their debut album the same month as CTA did as well. Apparently a marketing plan to create a Chicago scene, this ploy actually worked correctly since three of the four groups recorded two albums (not going further than that), but we all know what a monster Chicago became. But The Flock had a very average songwriting skill and both albums lack excellent productions. Apparently the group reformed in 75 for another album, but the brass/horn section was gone and so was Jerry Goodman.
Album Name The Flock.

Three singles were released from the album in Ireland, "Bigger Than Me" (30 September 2005 in Ireland and 10 October 2005 in the UK), "Flame" (16 March 2006) and "Rocky Took a Lover", which was eventually released on 28 August 2006 after gaining cult popularity from radio airplay. 1 Critical reception.

There is film footage of the version of the Flock playing the song Big Bird at a rock festival in the Netherlands about 1970.
Veteran English bluesman John Mayall raves about the Chicago septet in the liner notes. Like the Blind Faith album, this powerful debut is undercut by a too-long jam at the end. Track Listing.
