Leslie West (born Leslie Weinstein; October 22, 1945) is an American rock guitarist, vocalist, and songwriter. He is best known as a founding member of the hard rock band Mountain. West was born in New York City, to a Jewish family. He grew up in Hackensack, New Jersey, and in East Meadow, New York, Forest Hills, New York and Lawrence, New York. After his parents divorced, he changed his surname to West

Leslie West Mountain. New Album - Soundcheck - OUT NOW Feat. Peter Frampton, Brian May, Max Middleton, Bonni Bramlett, and Jack Bruce. Leslie West and Slash have long admired each other's work, but the two didn't become personally acquainted until West asked the Guns N' Roses lead axeman to play on his 2012 song Mudflap Mama.

This is and is not Mountain. It's actually a Leslie West solo album (fresh out of a New York band called The Vagrants, who apparently didn't have much success outside of New York City), with Felix Pappalrdi participating, and a different drummer, with no Steve Knight. It's a bit strange that it sounds like Mountain and it doesn't at the same time

Album · 1968 · 11 Songs. Not to be confused with music by the band Mountain-which was named after Leslie West’s 1969 debut solo album-these recordings feature West on lead vocals and guitar, Felix Pappalardi (who produced Cream’s Disraeli Gears) on bass and keyboards, and . Smart (who also played with Gram Parsons and Todd Rundgren) on drums. With West wailing his soulful rasp over heavily cranked blues-rock riffs, "Blood of the Sun" set the tone not only for this album but for most of Mountain’s career as a band.

Mountain is the debut album by American rock guitarist and vocalist Leslie West, released in July 1969 by Windfall Records. Background - Mountain is West's first solo album after several years spent as a member of the Vagrants. The album was recorded with bassist and producer Felix Pappalardi. Leslie West: That was the only place that we could work regularly! I remember Billy Joel was with the Hassles, and there was a group called the Illusion, another called the Rich Kids. There weren’t that many groups. When do you feel you actually got there? We were recording at the Record Plant. We’d just finished Mountain Climbing!, and Hendrix was in the other studio, Studio B, with Band of Gypsys. I knew that he wanted to maybe have Felix produce something. So Felix says, Go in the next studio and ask Jimi to come in. I said, You want me to do it? I’m just a fat kid from Queens! So, I walked in and I said, Mr. Hendrix, Felix Pappalardi is next door and he’d like you to come and listen to our album. He comes in and he heard Never in My Life.
