Description

Recollections of the Big Band Era is an album by American pianist, composer and bandleader Duke Ellington recorded in 1962 & 1963 by Bruce Swedien at Universal Recording Studios in Chicago for the Reprise label but not released until 1974 on the Atlantic label. The album features performances of compositions associated with big bands led by artists such as Count Basie, Fletcher Henderson, Louis Armstrong, Cab Calloway and others by the Duke Ellington's Orchestra.

Goldkette leased a ballroom in Detroit and his band Jean Goldkette And His Orchestra had great success, helping him forge a business empire acting as an agency for twenty orchestras & owning many dance halls. Born : March 18, 1899 in Valenciennes, France. Died : March 24, 1962 in Santa Barbara, California.

Himber was also the publisher of the R-H Log, a weekly survey of the most popular tunes on radio and television. ループで: Richard Himber And His Essex House Orchestra, Richard Himber And His Orchestra, Richard Himber And His Rhythmic Pyramids Orchestra, Richard Himber And His Ritz-Carlton Hotel Orchestra, Richard Himber And His Seven Stylists. リエーション: すべてを閲覧中 Richard Himber. Victor Recordings 1924-1928 neatly samples some of the group's best works by beginning in March 1924, a good nine months before Bix Beiderbecke first sat in, and ending in December 1928, more than a year after Bix had joined the ranks of Paul Whiteman's Orchestra, along with some of Goldkette's most capable players. During the mid-‘20s the Goldkette band played its best music in front of live audiences, using arrangements by Bill Challis. In 2002 the Transatlantic Radio label fortified their catalog with a 26-track anthology of historic sides by the Jean Goldkette Orchestra. Perhaps this explains why the Timeless label's sampler of Goldkette 's Victor recordings (waxed in Detroit, Camden N. Kansas City and Chicago between March 27, 1924 and January 14, 1929) neatly sidesteps each and every record that Beiderbecke ever made with this little dance band. That material appears on the Transatlantic Radio label's Goldkette compilation, which was released in 2002.

A lot of the Franklin Mint big-band albums paired jazz and non-jazz "sweet" bands, and though the jazz generally holds up better it's nice to hear some of the softer sounds of the era as well. Packaging is deluxe: sturdy hinged boxes covered in textured dull silver paper. Inside are photos, bios and data on each track that includes singers and soloists. The discs are what makes these collections so exceptional.
