Made of Bricks is the debut studio album by English singer-songwriter Kate Nash, released in the United Kingdom on 6 August 2007 by Fiction Records, Cherrytree Records, and the Universal Music Group. The album was a commercial success, topping the UK Albums Chart and spawning a number-two single in the form of the lead single "Foundations". The album was later released in Europe on 10 September and in the United States on 18 September 2007.

Made of Bricks is a confident, affable debut from an artist who’s still got a bit of growing up to do - next time around, song titles like ‘Dickhead’ and ‘The Shit Song’ will not be tolerated. Thankfully, its combination of searing honesty and natural melodic flair †even the less impressive songs have decent choruses - offers ample evidence that, with time, Kate Nash can only get better.

Spend time with this album, however, and Nash is revealed as much more than the sum of her parts. First, she's an excellent songwriter who illustrates her tales of romantic woe and inadequacies with grace and many subtleties. It's easy to see why Allen saw Nash not as a rival but a fellow artist, and how the two quickly became friends. Nash's frequent sing-speak vocals and rather, erm, direct manner on some songs ("Dickhead," "Shit Song") are what most naysayers immediately point to, but her quiet rage on the former track is tremendously effective.

Her vocal style is in fashion showing similarities to Feist, Lily Allen and Regina Spektor but without sounding exactly like them. Though Nash has a more folksy vibe in her music and vocals than the above-mentioned recording artists, she has the same pop-sheen that glosses her songs. The melodies are not too cluttered but not too sparse, they show moderation in their layering and have a comfort level associated with The Kooks music.
