One of Stephen Stills' finest songs from the 1980s, "Got It Made" became one of the sleeper highlights from the American Dream album. Written during the album sessions (with, according to Stills, some minor assistance from Neil Young), the song subtly addresses the greed and avarice of the yuppies of the 1980s, who were far more concerned with financial conquests and mergers than the sense of community that Stills came from in the '60s generation. Musically, the song is driven by a great, almost soul-inspired groove and some jazzy chord changes. Stills was apparently not quite satisfied with the album version, and he re-arranged the song with a sparse, Vince Guaraldi-inspired piano pattern for the live version, which appears on the Crosby, Stills & Nash box set from a 1989 United Nations benefit.
