The Royal Canadian Air Force protects Canadians, Canadian sovereignty and interests. A ceremony was held Friday, June 14, 2019, at 22 Wing North Bay, Ontario, to mark the official opening of the Mission Training Centre, a digital battleground that will train the next generation of Aerospace Controllers and Aerospace Control Operators.

Yesterday afternoon, at a special outdoor ceremony, Winnipeg Airports Authority paid tribute to the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) by dedicating a monument on Wellington Avenue. The monument consists of a sign that reads Home of the RCAF and three flags that serve to acknowledge the deep history and active presence of the RCAF in our community. Participating in the ceremony were Barry Rempel, President & CEO of Winnipeg Airports Authority, Major-General Pierre St-Amand, Commander of 1 Canadian Air Division, Ms. Bonnie Korzeniowski, Military Envoy Province of Manitoba, and James White, Policy Advisor representing the Honourable Steven Fletcher, Minister of State (Transport) and Member of Parliament for Charleswood-St. The ceremony included an Honour Guard and the singing of the national anthem by Sgt David Grenon.

This design remained as the Royal Canadian Air Force Ensign until the Canadian Red Ensign was superseded by the new Canadian National Flag in 1965 and the RCAF ensign ceased to be used officially. In 1982 the then Canadian Forces Air Command adopted the current flag. The ensign has a field of air force blue like the original RCAF Ensign but the Union Flag was replaced with the Canadian Maple Leaf Flag in the canton and the roundel featured a more stylized maple leaf than the original roundel

The State Opening is the only regular event to unite the three elements of legislature – the House of Lords, the House of Commons and The Queen – together as the Crown in Parliament. What happens during the State Opening? The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh travel to the Palace of Westminster in a State coach, escorted by the Household Cavalry. The Queen then leads the Royal Procession through the Royal Gallery, which is packed with guests, to the chamber of the House of Lords. Members of the House of Lords wear appropriate ceremonial robes, and judges of the High Court of Justice wear their wigs. The House of Lords official known as 'Black Rod' is then sent to summon the House of Commons. The oldest ever recipient of a message from The Queen was a Canadian gentleman, who reached the age of 116 in December 1984. The Queen and Commonwealth.

The Royal Canadian Air Force, as the guarantor of Canadian sovereignty, has a long and proud history of defending Canada and its allies. The RCAF members of today can take pride in the past and all that these Colours represent as they look to an innovative and proud future. Harjit S. Sajjan, Defence Minister.
