The Grand Wazoo is a Jazz fusion album by Frank Zappa and The Mothers, released in November 1972. It was written and recorded during Zappa's period of convalescence after being assaulted in December 1971 in London, UK. Along with its predecessor Waka/Jawaka (July 1972), this album represents Zappa's foray into big band music, the logical progression from Hot Rats (1969) (which used a much smaller lineup). This was the last release on Zappa's own Bizarre Records label.
The Grand Wazoo is a music studio album recording by FRANK ZAPPA (essive Rock) released in 1972 on cd, lp, vinyl and/or cassette. The Grand Wazoo" is probably the most experimental song on the album, but still there is a continuity with the first song and it may be a bit weaker, but still really good. But I knew only one album of Zappa and The Mothers at that time and now with the information power over the net finally I read a lot of news and stories about how unique Frank Zappa as person is (and probably "has been").

Like its immediate predecessor, Waka/Jawaka, The Grand Wazoo was a largely instrumental jazz rock album recorded during Frank Zappa's convalescence from injuries sustained after being pushed off a concert stage. While Zappa contributes some guitar solos and occasional vocals, the focus is more on his skills as a composer and arranger. Most of the five selections supposedly form a musical representation of a story told in the liner notes about two warring musical factions, but the bottom line is that, overall, the compositions here are more memorably melodic and consistently engaging than.

Digital Booklet: The Grand Wazoo. It is absolutely a necessary Zappa album in his vast discography. With The Grand Wazoo he refined the jazz fusion subgenre. Eat That Question is worth the price of the entire album. The 2012 remaster is fantastic. It reverts to the dry vinyl mix. Earlier CDs had digital reverb. The Grand Wazoo is one of my favourite of Frank's albums. 7 people found this helpful.
The Grand Wazoo," in contrast, features strong ensemble work and exceptional solos by Zappa, trombonist Bill Byers and trumpeter Sal Marquez. Where "Big Swifty" loses focus, the relentlessly swinging impetus of "The Grand Wazoo" remains riveting, for its entire 13 minutes. The Grand Wazoo' (1972). Following a brief post-Mothers period of regrouping his musical ideas, Zappa swerved into the world of fusion for a handful of albums. 8. 'Waka, Jawaka' (1972). Like 'The Grand Wazoo' (see No. 9 on our list of the Top 10 Frank Zappa Albums), 'Waka, Jawaka' plays around with various forms of fusion. But it also serves as a bridge between Zappa's avant-rock work and his later, more sophisticated jazz and classical material.
