Drone Um Futurisma" is the star. and while it is definitely a stonking "tuuune," it owes it's guts to a Canadian synth-disco-pop record from 1984 by Lime called "On The Grid" (ReMix Dub) mixed by John Morales John Morales however is another story!

Themes from Vapourspace was a very mature debut album - unsurprising, given Gage's recording experience. He followed it up with Sweep in 1997. For amateur of "No 4/4 Techno" Mars The Red Planet is an high precision of sound between construction, groove, atmosphere, delay, reverb... simply magik ;)PS : if someone have more reference in this mood , i'm interested , just send me a tiny message :)

This is a great EP. For me, the standout track is Venusian Biosphere. It's long and unhurried, and that's its genius...it beeps with a burbling analogue layer and a bass tone for over 4 minutes before any kind of rhythm kicks in. When that does arrive, it's heavily delayed and the rhythm gets filtered...I think this is one of the best minimal techno tracks ever released.

I don't want to come off as a whistle-blowing-trainspotter but Jizzylicious's "I come from planet intelligent...would you like to see my gushing diction?" made me cringe, it's too much credit where not all the credit is due...John Morales however is another story!

As my original review disappeared, I will make every attempt to say the same things I originally said. Drone Um Futurisma is among some of the most out there and innovative techno of the early days of "the scene". What clearly disappeared from the techno landscape was the spirit of innovative experimentalism, which Drone Um Futurisma displays with brilliance. The spaced-out introduction and the swirling synth tweeking and high-resonance quasi-acid sounds all add up to breathing an incredible kind of life into this track. Since the Probe/Plus-8 days of Richie Hawtin (before his "-" moniker) there has never been anything to compare to the innovation of these early tracks. It makes me wish Richie never got so self-involved in his overdone minimalism which "-" was, because after that transition his ideas, collaborations, and music were never the same, and never nearly as great. If you see this record and it's for sale, buy it. You shan't regret it. This is singular techno that stands completely alone in the universe. I'm exceptionally proud to own this vinyl.

It should be pointed out that this release is from Mark Gage (aka Vapourspace). Your review makes it sound like Rich made this release instead of it just being on his Probe label....and, yes, this is an awesome EP!
