Revenant on this album are pretty much as close to perfection in the field of dynamics in thrash as anyone can be. And this is really what sets them apart from more "regular", Possessed-style of death/thrash. It doesn't just bludgeon the listener. It takes the listener on a journey through a dark, multi-layered, multi-faceted world, through constant changes in riffs, tempos and arrangements. All this without losing coherency for a second  . It's sad Prophecies Of A Dying World doesn't receive the proper amount of attention for the quality of its material. This is an excellent death/thrash album with a very welcome knack for experimentation. It sets itself apart from other bands in the scene by trying something different and succeeding at doing so.

Revenant’s 1991 classic Prophecies of a Dying World is a stand out record in the hybrid genre, though, as the group’s sound was differentiated by their adoption of a noticeably foreboding atmosphere and subtle technical sensibilities. The aura is helped in part by the looming, cloudy bass tone and the cleverly phrased lyrics about Elder Gods, the End of Times, and other Lovecraftian topics. This is all a lot to manage while still delivering an extreme metal release with piss and vigor, but that’s what makes this album so impressive. Fear and anger are both represented in a balanced manner - the band is able to effectively deliver multiple themes while still creating crazy powerful death-thrash. The approach to song construction is clearly and thoroughly planned and arguably more sophisticated than a number of their peers.
