All lyrics from Innervisions album, popular Stevie Wonder songs with tracklist and information about album.
Innervisions is the 16th studio album by American musician Stevie Wonder, released August 3, 1973, on the Tamla label for Motown Records, a landmark recording of his "classic period". The nine tracks of Innervisions encompass a wide range of themes and issues: from drug abuse in "Too High", through inequality and systemic racism in "Living for the City", to love in the ballads "All in Love Is Fair" and "Golden Lady".
Wonder also made no secret of the fact that "He's Misstra Know-It-All" was directed at Tricky Dick, aka Richard Milhouse Nixon, then making headlines (and destroying America's faith in the highest office) with the biggest political scandal of the century.
Innervisions, Stevie Wonder’s 16th album, is a soul masterpiece. Stevie puts his soul into every bit of the album, lyrically and musically. But it’s not just the music that makes Innervsions so amazing, it’s the subject matter. With the classic Living For The City you have frustration over inner city living, Too High gives you the break down on drug abuse & He’s Misstra Know-It-All criticizing Richard Nixon. Innervisions Q&A.
He had an impeccable touch with a love song, but the ’70s brought social consciousness to the fore. Drugs, urban turmoil, class disparity, crises in spirit, and politics weigh on Wonder's mind. He never loses himself to apathy or bitterness, preferring to find a beautiful escape in the glorious tonal clusters of "Visions," the raw excitement underpinning the classic "Living For The City" and the levitating groove of "Higher Ground
Stevie Wonder – Innervisions. on Rolling Stones Top 500 Albums list. Might I be one to say that this album has a lot of different points to it. The first track, Too High is a nice little jazz song. It has all the doo-wops that you need to make a soul song. But the second, and title track, Innervisions is a slow and dreary step into the album. Living For The City is the best song on this album. In my opinion it’s the best Stevie Wonder song I’ve ever heard. The gut-wrenching lyrics are of a story, a young black man trying to get away from slavery in the south, therefore he makes his way to New York. He’s not there for five minutes before he gets arrested and beaten and thrown in jail.
