Playback is the only studio album by the American synthpop band SSQ, released in 1983 by Enigma and EMI America Records. It is the only album released by the band as SSQ, though the band members later worked on lead singer Stacey Q's debut album Better Than Heaven (1986) and follow-up album, Hard Machine (1988). Synthicide", "Big Electronic Beat", and "Clockwork" appeared on the soundtrack of the 1984 film Hardbodies. Synthicide" and "Anonymous" appeared on the soundtrack of the 1985 film Cavegirl.

I have both this and the 1983 pressing. A couple of the synth sounds are different on Walkman On, and i think some of the vocal effects on Synthicide are as well; not to say they are bad though, i actually prefer the minor changes on those over the old ones. The rest of the tracks they share are identical to my ears. This is a really good repress, i think it sounds better than the original pressing, super clean sounding with good range. The colour of this pink one is a really pretty pink splatter that looks like stretched bubblegum. The packaging is good overall, thick card stock, includes info on the inside of the gatefold from the old 1983 sleeve notes and new stuff on the record sleeve itself. The label on the record is a homage to the one on the original gatefold pressing, white with black text on one side with a logo on the other, nice touch. My only minor issue is the front cover of the gatefold is clearly not the best scan of the original, it has a texture effect on it that isn't present on the original glossier looking jacket. This album is a hidden gem in my opinion, i'm a big fan of synth-pop from this era and this is some of the best i've heard, grab a copy of this new while you still can, this repress was clearly done by someone who cared about it.

This is not the same USA album release! The last song is on the soundtrack to The Return Of The Living Dead. I will stick with the original EMI America lp anyway. I don't purchase reissues or remasters.

What's up with the version of Walkman On on this reissue? It's got distinctly different synths. Definitely not the same mix as featured on the original LP (both Enigma & EMI versions).Calling our resident SSQ expert ShampooCell, can you shed some light on this?

Why is "The Girl Who Seduced The World" on this reissue? It's a different version than the one featured on Trans-Atlantic, so was this version originally intended to be on Playback? Also, track 10 is the original Q version of Playback, so why is it called "Kendun Mix"?
