Clannad was formed in 1970 by siblings Ciarán Brennan, Pól, and Máire Brennan and their twin uncles Noel and Pádraig Duggan. The five grew up in Dore, an area of Gweedore, a remote parish in County Donegal in the northwest corner of Ireland. Following the album's release in 1973, Clannad took part in the heat stages of the 1973 Eurovision Song Contest for Ireland with "An Pháirc" from Clannad as their entry. The band released Clannad 2 as their second studio album on Gael Linn Records in 1974. To produce the album the band hired Dónal Lunny, founder of the Irish bands Planxty and The Bothy Band. Clannad released their third album Dúlamán in 1976. The album is named after the Irish folk song "Dúlamán" which became a fan favourite at Clannad concerts. Dúlamán was recorded at Rockfield Studios in Wales and is their first album produced by Nicky Ryan.

Eithne Ní Bhraonáin (Enya Brennan), Máire's sister, used to be a member of the group in the early Eighties. The band won a Grammy Award in 1999 for Best New Age Album. Clannad is an Irish musical group from Gaoth Dobhair (pronounced, Gwee-Dore), County Donegal, Ireland. Their music has been variously described as being folk music, new age, and Celtic.

3 Clannad and afterward (Enya). Pádraig Ó Dugáin (Patrick Duggan) and Noel Ó Dugáin (Noel Duggan) are Eithne's uncles. Ciarán Ó Braonáin (Ciaran Brennan) and Pól Ó Braonáin (Paul Brennan) are her brothers. In 1968 they formed the band An Clann As Dobhair and began to perform traditional Irish music at festivals. Changing their name to Clannad, and recruiting sister Maire in 1973, the band went on to international success performing both traditional and original material. Leo Brennan, the father of Enya, Moya Brennan and Clannad, was laid to rest in Gaoth Dobhair, Co Donegal on Friday. Tributes have been paid to the renowned entertainer and owner of famous west Donegal pub Leo's Tavern since his death on Wednesday at the age of 90. In his homily, parish priest Pádraig Ó Baoighill paid tribute to Leo's devotion to his church and his gift to the local area and people through his music and kindness.

Enya left this group to embark on a highly successful solo career selling an estimated seventy five million records. Mr Brennan is survived by his wife Máire ‘Baba’ Brennan and their children Moya, Ciarán, Pól, Deirdre, Leon, Enya, Olive, Bartley and Brídín. His funeral will take place at St Mary’s Chapel, Derrybeg, Co Donegal on Friday.
