Melodrama is New Zealand singer Lorde’s sophomore album, released on June 16, 2017 via Lava and Republic Records. Inspired in part by the emotions and insights gained after her breakup with longtime boyfriend James Lowe, Lorde calls Melodrama a record about being alon. he good parts and the bad parts. The album’s cover was painted by Brooklyn artist Sam McKinniss, who was initially approached by Lorde over the rest of his work. They became friends, and Lorde eventually commissioned McKinniss for the piece.

Kiwi alt-pop artist Lorde returns after a four-year hiatus with her ambitious, highly-anticipated sophomore album, ‘Melodrama. Early in 2017, alternative pop artist Lorde got off to a quick start promoting her sophomore album, Melodrama. In 2013, she became a star, thanks to Grammy-winning, alt-pop hit, Royals. She’d go on to have other hits from Pure Heroine, but Royals was her ‘ace in the hole. Now a more mature, 20-year old, Lorde expands her artistry throughout the course of Melodrama. Green Light served as an early indication that Lorde was evolving her sound

The singer’s soaring overnight success should have made her second album a catastrophe On the face of it, Lorde’s Melodrama bore all the hallmarks of a disastrous second album waiting to happen. It was the work of an artist whose fame had removed her from the world that inspired her debut, a problem that’s bedevilled everyone from umpteen rappers to the Arctic Monkeys’ Alex Turner. Pretty soon I’ll be getting on my first plane, she had sung on Tennis Court, a highlight of 2013’s Pure Heroine, shortly before success.

Melodrama is Lorde’s study of being a young woman finding her own conviction in unsteady circumstances. Sometimes, this also involves being single-a breakup and a raucous house party serve as thematic through-lines-but romance is only part of the album’s script. As a nod to her clearest pop forbearer, her peace is in accepting that she will, sometimes, end up dancing on her own.

Melodrama (Lorde album). Melodrama (Lorde album). Background and recording. Melodrama is the second studio album by New Zealand singer Lorde, released on 16 June 2017 through Republic Records. Writing for the album began in December 2013 and continued through "false starts, fruitless detours and stretches of inactivity" as Lorde stepped back from the public spotlight, taking shape after her break-up from her longterm boyfriend James Lowe in 2015.

On her sophomore album Melodrama, Lorde makes a few Top 40 concessions, but shows a ton of promise with the stylistic and formal risks she does take.

The album is only 41 minutes long. One LP is more than enough!

he probably means 11 songs ....... not 11 Vinyl ....

Definitely required some cleaning and anti-static brushing after opening, but sounds great! It's full and punchy but everything still sounds very clear. I'm hearing a lot that I never noticed when just streaming it-- this pressing sounds surprisingly organic for such a digital-sounding album. No skips or pops on my copy and only minimal surface noise. The worst thing I can say about it is that the bass response could be a little better, but it's still satisfying. However, for a record retailing for >$25, the overall package feels pretty cheap. The vinyl isn't very heavy, the outer sleeve is unusually flimsy (no gatefold like Pure Heroine), and the printed inner sleeve is thin and clung to the record with so much static that I thought I wouldn't be able to pull it out without ripping the sleeve. Hopefully these are not issues with the deluxe edition.
