California, Here I Come" is a song written for the 1921 Broadway musical Bombo, starring Al Jolson. The song was written by Buddy DeSylva and Joseph Meyer, with Jolson often listed as a co-author. Jolson recorded the song in 1924. It is often called the unofficial state song of California. The Dutch rock group The Shocking Blue also had a song called "California Here I Come" on their first album "At Home" and on the North American version of that album, simply titled "The Shocking Blue. The same version of this song was later released as "Hear My Song" on the B-side of the "Never Marry A Railroad Man" single on the Colossus label. Their song, despite having the same title, should not be confused with the song co-written by Al Jolson and covered by people like Freddie Cannon in 1960. Rock-a-Bye Your Baby with a Dixie Melody". Tell That to the Marines".
Rock-a-bye, hush-a-bye with a Dixie melody When you croon, croon a tune from the heart of Dixie Hang that cradle mammy mine Right on that Mason-Dixon Line And swing it from Virginia To Tennessee with all the soul that's in ya. Mammy, mammy listen to what they're playing They're playing Weep No More My Lady Sing it for me and old Black Joe Just as though you had me on your knee A thousand baby kisses I'll deliver If you will only sing that Swanee River Rock-a-bye your rock-a-bye baby with a Dixie melody.
