Curt Smith (born 24 June 1961) is an English singer, songwriter, musician, record producer, and co-founding member of the pop rock band Tears for Fears along with childhood friend Roland Orzabal. As well as playing bass guitar, Smith sang lead vocals on several Tears for Fears hits such as "Mad World", "Pale Shelter", "Change", "The Way You Are" and "Everybody Wants to Rule the World".
Aeroplane was the third solo album released by Curt Smith, member of the British pop band Tears for Fears. It was released in two versions, a 14-song (15 if you count the hidden track) version in 1999 in Canada through the Sour Music label, and a 6-song EP in 2000 on Curt Smith's own Zerodisc label. The Canadian version contains songs that were originally on the 1998 self-titled album from the band Mayfield (of which Curt Smith was a member). The US release consisted mostly of songs from the Canadian release not found on the Mayfield album.
Aeroplane is nothing special as a song, but it's Curt being Curt and works in that respect, the rest of the EP, save "where do I go?" is mostly just Curt having fun. It's only the second time I've heard a lounge version of a song and not thought it sucked. While not Kid A grounbreaking material, at least it's not sappy pap in the Backseat Boys vein. For those ones who always loved Tears For Fears and became a little disapointed with the first Smith's Album (Soul on Board), Aeroplane is really a good surprise. It seems he found his ownn stile, more acoustic, creating great songs as Reach Out. And, furher to a total acoustic version for Evereybody Wants to Rule, there's an amazing hard version for Pale Shelter, which is really fantastic, much better than the original one. This CD makes me very excited and curious about what will be the result of a TFF return.
Curt Smith is the co-founder of Tears For Fears, with which he continues to tour worldwide, as well as an acclaimed solo musician. He also writes music for film, television and the web, most recently scoring the independent feature Meth Head,. He's a regular speaker at creative, media and technology events including TEDxHollywood, TEDxSan Francisco and the USC Annenberg Online Communities program. Introspective bedroom pop with a literary-narrative bent, touching the mundane horrors of everyday life. Bandcamp New & Notable Oct 17, 2018. Heart of Glass by Blondie.
