Nowhere is the debut album by British rock band Ride, released 15 October 1990. Rolling Stone called the album "a masterpiece", and online magazine Pitchfork called it "one of enduring moments". Ride released three EPs, Ride, Play, and Fall, prior to the release of Nowhere. Nowhere was recorded live-in-the-studio with producer Marc Waterman. Waterman had a mental breakdown, which resulted in Alan Moulder mixing the recordings.

Nowhere" by Ride is one of the seminal albums of the Shoegazing genre, even if the sound of the album is not necessarily indebted to Shoegaze. Rather, Ride's album seems to predict many genres of rock that were to be heard down the road, from Britpop to Indie.

I felt like a goofball for selling the single LP reissue of this and buying this edition, but I bought it for the 2nd LP and I don't regret it. Excellent reissue. Ridiculous prices! I purchased from an indie w/o DVD, I should have bought it direct from Ride.Edit: Listened to it again last night just to make sure, and this reissue definitely rips.
Ylal Ylal
is this the same remaster as on the Rhino editions?
Nidora Nidora
I have this record but there is an error in the label as both sides have the label for side A. Does anyone else have this?

Definitely the best sounding CD version. This original digital master has the widest soundstage, a nice dynamic range, and most of the warmth of the vinyl releases. The later CDs by ignition (with the bonus tracks) are headache-inducingly loud. Avoid those, buy this. Obviously, the music is classic, so I won't go into that here

This is a fantastic pressing! I'm so happy to have it!

Album sounds brilliant, music quality is pretty much perfect in my opinion. Side A on my copy sounds flawless, dead silent, Side B has some noticeable pops during Decay and a little on Paralysed, not enough to ruin it but they're there. Looking at the vinyl carefully, i can see several slight indentations around those parts of side B which looks like a production issue, and also there's some other cosmetic streaks which, I think, were caused from the packaging in the paper sleeve on both sides of the disc but especially on side B. So my copy isn't perfect, but pretty close. Still definitely recommend picking this pressing up for sure.

Does anybody know if this pressing comes shrinkwrapped (like in the picture)? Amazon has sent it to me TWICE with no shrinkwrap and of course, damaged cover. Had to return it twice already.

Yeh, my copy came shrinkwrapped, didn't buy it on Amazon though

boring, non-perennial music from a genre and band that was/is as unexciting as it was/is uninspiring
Anasius Anasius
Oh boy, an opinion from someone who's life is so boring, unexciting & uninspiring that he/she gets his/her jollies from trolling, with the bleak hope that someone/anyone will respond to their provoking thread crap & liven things up for them in the confines of their mothers dark, depressing basement

Grummer Bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla. Who cares about your opininon about their music? You don't like them, you don't need to listen their music. 100% agree with Grummer's comment: what's the point on buying an album of a band and genre you don't like? are you rich and lucky enough to waste your money? (just kidding...)

Stunning sound quality, includes download card and has a printed inner. The jacket is very very thin and flimsy.... But when it sounds this good, who gives a shit. Love the embossed RIDE on the front cover. I've always felt that this album sounds just like that swirly wave on the cover, brilliant. Really, once again, this reissue sounds fantastic. It's cool to own a 25 year anniversary of an album, as that is a big number to hit. A quarter of a century old already!!! Crazy.. Great album!

This is a great pressing! Super, super quiet with great sound and packaging. Very happy with this release.

Mine came with a DVD, in a plastic sleeve as well. Nice of them, considering the hefty price tag for US shipping.
Sinredeemer Sinredeemer
i paid so much to get two of these over to the states.. been waiting forever for a nice colored press of this though.
Wilalmaine Wilalmaine
Checked mine again and it didn't come with a DVD, I did buy it from a Indie shop in UK. Possibly just available via Ride shop?
It's so easy It's so easy
Anyone who ordered the Vinyl version direct from the Ride shop will have got the DVD in a clear plastic sleeve as a little surprise ;)The dvd is in the mailer and can get stuck so hopefully everyone will have seen it before throwing the mailer in the bin :)

Mine came with the DVD
Akinohn Akinohn
Yes it comes with a DVD - or at least mine did...
uspeh uspeh
Does the vinyl come with the DVD? Mine didn't. Thanks!
Gribandis Gribandis
Mine came with the DVD as well.
catterpillar catterpillar
I believe all orders from the online store should have came with the DVD. However, it was not in the sealed gatefold, instead it was in it's own plastic sleeve, tossed in the shipping envelope with the album.
Whitescar Whitescar
Can someone add the new reissue info?
Juce Juce
This is the best bootleg of any LP I've listened to. Complete quality from cover to vinyl.
Nargas Nargas
this seems to have been out of print for a month or two.

You can still buy it for a normal price on eBay.

Nowhere is a place floating on a wave, in undulant movement between noise and melody. Son of 60s psychedelic utilization of dissonance and 80s post punk romantic atmospheres, Nowhere is a psychedelic lollipop drenched in noises. The Jesus and Mary Chain dichotomy between disturbing defiance and pure sweetness is here synthesized in a delicate spacy pop. Dynamic but dazing too, Ride music is not so hazy as My Bloody Valentine one, despite the evident similarity with it. The tide of liquid guitar effects rises and goes down wrapping delicate melodies, never drowning or deforming them in an impenetrable wall of sound, as in the Irish band music. Nowhere is a noise rock album as Sonic Youth or Dinosaur Jr. ones: what makes it unique is its European sensibility, always focused on melodies and atmospheres.
godlike godlike
yes, i have it..

I am a bit confused because I have now ordered two copies of this repressing (one for a gift and one for myself) and there was a striking difference in the construction and printing of the outer sleeves. One was absolutely gorgeous: it had a heavier-than-ordinary construction, the colors were deep and vivid, and the words "Ride" and "Nowhere" were not printed in any contrasting color or shade but were embossed so that you might not have even known they were there until you ran your hands over the surface. The other jacket felt ordinary-weight, its surface was smoother/glossier, it's colors were less vivid, and the words printed in an easy-to-read light shade of blue instead of being embossed. I already gave the nicer one away as a gift before getting the second one, not realizing what a huge difference there would be. Should there be two different entries for these two versions?
Kashicage Kashicage
Confirmed. I've only seen maybe two copies with the embossed "RIDE" lettering on the front, and from what I recall there was no Rhino sticker on them. All the copies I've stumbled upon since have been of the cheaper looking variety, and they all did have the Rhino records sticker.
Quynaus Quynaus
Did you compare these two versions? I have the same smoother with no-convex letters cover. I wonder why they made two different reissues with the same inner sleeve and vinyl. My LP has the same number of matrix as the prettier one. I wrote to Rhino but they couldn't help me.
FLIDER FLIDER
I found this too. Wasn't very impressed.
Skyway Skyway
does this actually exist.. ??
OwerSpeed OwerSpeed
Saw one with my own two eye balls and that was today.

Yes it does. I was given a promo copy but I think the physical release got put back... in fact it got put back until 2 days ago!!!See: http://www.rhino.com/shop/product/ride-nowhere-20th-anniversary-edition

It's the 20th anniversary edition, the submission is incomplete. http://www.rhino.com/shop/product/ride-nowhere-20th-anniversary-edition
Enalonasa Enalonasa
Yes I got one !
Gandree Gandree
One thing to note is that this album does not have the amazing track "Nowhere" on it, which one CD version I owned did have. However, this version should be the standard for how the record should sound. Most of the CD releases of this have been horribly mangled when they were mastered.
Anicasalar Anicasalar
I have to agree.... I have an original US Sire 1990 cd.... at the time I thought it sounded ok, but with better equipment it sounds very muddy and like the volume has been turned down 10 notches .... I want a vinyl copy but don’t know which will sound the best. I imagine a U.K. creation original will far outplay a sire records version. I’m not sure about remastered new versions....
Hawk Flying Hawk Flying
I suspect the rhino reissue is not available in Japan, except maybe as an import, so I guess they do make money off this. There was a pretty nice Japanese bootleg of Souvlaki by Slowdive recently too (maybe rhino will do that one soon as well?)...
Xellerlu Xellerlu
Nice looking i should say, not sure how it sounds. Possibly this and the Ride bootleg are mastered from CDs, which doesn't necessarily mean they will sound bad, but what's the point then really?
Danial Danial
Exactly my point. Why put out a bootleg at the same time as a legitimate release? Doesn't make a lot of sense. Where's the profit? That's what they're into bootlegging for. Did Rhino reissue this in Japan? If not, who legitimately did? Would it be cheaper to make the bootleg then buy it legitimately as an import. I still don't see the demand for this considering the Rhino release is readily available and considerably less expensive. Also, insound.com is selling this openly on they're site. If this is a bootleg they're kinda asking for trouble don't you think? It's been up there for a couple months and they're selling the Rhino version as well. Zicelik Zicelik
The japanese make some nice bootlegs... not sure about the statement "reissue of a record that really doesn't have the demand to justify it?" as it has just been legitimately re-issued...
Nikohn Nikohn
? I don't really care one way or the other. I may actually buy the Rhino reissue as reviews say it sounds fantastic. I have a Creation version that is either a repress or a bootleg itself from the later 90s (jacket not embossed, but has inner, anyone know about this pressing?)
Vizil Vizil
Do you want it to be a bootleg? Sounds like it.
Alsanadar Alsanadar
Why would someone go through the trouble of such an elaborate bootleg complete with embossed cover and heavy vinyl for a reissue of a record that really doesn't have the demand to justify it? Doesn't make much sense. This is by far the nicest "bootleg" I've ever seen. They took great care with the quality which doesn't jive with any bootleg I've seen. They usually look like complete shit.
santa santa
This is an excellent first US issue on vinyl, very faithful to the original UK LP, right down to the embossed type on the front cover. Nice hefty vinyl, beautiful uncoated paper stock, record is stored in plain sleeve but printed inner sleeve is also included, sounds excellent. One amazing album. Recommended.
Duzshura Duzshura
just bought this today after always walking past the recent japanese bootleg and i am so happy i waited. this is beautifully packaged and sounds amazing. rhino did an excellent job. happy that it's faithful to the original creation tracklisting too. i just hope rhino can reissue the slowdive albums one day and early lilys. recommended.
Hulbine Hulbine
From all the research I can gather on various forums this is indeed a bootleg.
VizoRRR VizoRRR
Can anyone confirm whether or not this is a bootleg (a very nice one at that)? There's no barcode, the back cover typography is sloppy (note the capital "P" in "in a different Place") and in a different font, and the front cover is printed dark. Very suspect, if you ask me.
Prinna Prinna
Correction to above, embossed jacket is not gatefold but single opening. Also some copies of unknown quantity have color vinyl [white] on LP 2 [sides C/D]. Obi strip is in Japanese, catalog number is for Nippon Japan issue. Superb quality reproduction of indeterminate origin.
