Andre Alice Norton (born Alice Mary Norton, February 17, 1912 – March 17, 2005) was an American writer of science fiction and fantasy, who also wrote works of historical fiction and contemporary fiction. She wrote primarily under the pen name Andre Norton, but also under Andrew North and Allen Weston. She was the first woman to be Gandalf Grand Master of Fantasy, first woman to be SFWA Grand Master, and first inducted by the Science Fiction and Fantasy Hall of Fame.

Time Traders by Andre (actually Alice Mary) Norton, first published in 1958, is a combination of science fiction, space travel. time travel and good old-fashioned American-Russian Cold War propaganda. Set in the early 21st century (about now), a group of American operatives travel back in time to around 1200 BC in what was ancient Britain to seek out what technological marvels it seems the Russians may have stumbled upon. The Time Traders combines science fiction with Cold War intrigue and takes the reader back to almost the beginning of time. Ross Murdock, as a young prisoner is offered a chance at redemption. If he joins a secrete program, his sentence will be commuted. Figuring that almost anything will be better than wasting away where he is, accepts and During the Cold War, writers used this subversive conflict as a base for literally thousands of novels.

This book, "Time Traders" by Andre Norton is a compendium of the first two books in her "Time Traders" series: "The Time Traders" and "Galactic Derelict. The novels were written in 1958 and 1959, respectively. They read just about as you'd expected decent science fiction to read from that era: technically good writing, good story, but a bit linear/simplistic in plotting (and there's nothing wrong with that since that's just the way it was back then). The two books aren't quite evenly matched, though
