The Blind Boys Of Alabama.

Blind Boys of Alabama. Grammy award-winning gospel legends-since 1939. Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Marc Cohn was extremely impressed when he heard the collaboration between Paul Simon and the Dixie Hummingbirds.

The Blind Boys of Alabama (or simply Blind Boys of Alabama) is an American five-time Grammy Award-winning gospel group who first sang together in 1939. The Blind Boys have toured for seven decades and created an extensive discography. In 2016 the on-stage configuration of the group consisted of eight people: four blind singers-Jimmy Carter, Ben Moore, Eric "Ricky" McKinnie, Paul Beasley – guitarist and musical director Joey Williams, and a keyboardist, a bass guitarist, and a drummer.

The highlights were the six collaborations, which included two new songs – the upbeat Bamako to Birmingham and Two Cultures, One Beat – and fine gospel harmonising on Welcome to Mali. Best of all was Carter’s powerful solo treatment of the Tom Waits song Down in the Hole, now matched with thoughtful and inspired guitar work from Amadou. If they can work up more songs as strong as this, it will be a partnership worth continuing. At Cambridge folk festival, 4 August, and Usher Hall, Edinburgh, 7 August.

Greatest Hits Vol. II (Alabama album). Greatest Hits Vol. II is the second greatest hits package released by the American country music band Alabama. The album was released by RCA Records in 1991, and has since been certified platinum for sales of 1 million units by the Recording Industry Association of America.

In the case of the Blind Boys of Alabama, Fountain says their excitement about singing began when someone brought a radio into the Institute. The Blind Boys were traveling and making a good living, singing like their idols throughout the 1940s. But after World War II, musical tastes changed. Rock 'n' roll came in in the early ‘50s, and it was a big thing, Fountain said. He says he saw plenty of people give up gospel singing for rock 'n' roll. People like Little Richard, Ray Charles and Sam Cooke. I was in the studio - me and Sam Cooke - when he changed from gospel and went over to rock 'n' roll, Fountain said. The musical styles of early rock 'n' roll and gospel were nearly the same

James "Jim" S. Richard was born circa 1883, at birth place, Louisiana, to Theophile Pierre Joseph Richard and Aimee Richard (born Lirette). Theophile was born on January 6 1855, in Houma, Terrebonne Parish, LA. Aimee was born on May 11 1858, in Houma, Terrebonne Parish, LA.

Exclusively for Prime members. Two of the most powerful tracks are back to back blues excursions: "I Had Trouble," by Charlie Musselwhite and "When the Spell is Broken," by Bonnie Raitt. The latter song features The Blind Boys on a great-sounding refrain toward the end: "Can't cry if you don't know ho. Their voices fit well with the blues, but among the wide range of styles that you find are country, black gospel, Americana, reggae and something that sounds a little alternative.
