Individ is the sixth studio album by indie folk band The Dodos. It was released on Polyvinyl Records on January 27, 2015. The album makes heavy use of the slide guitar of Meric Long, which was an element used in the band's embryonic days, but more sparingly on 2013's Carrier. It is marked from previous efforts likewise for its lack of involvement of high-profile producer Phil Ek, who worked on The Dodos' 2009 album Time to Die. "Precipitation" (6:10).

Individ' by The Dodos warrants its existence purely by virtue of the track, 'Competition' - that one's a beaut! The rest of the album is pretty good I suppose. These guys make the bare-bones drum and guitar combo go further than most, but the majority of the songwriting is a bit indie-vanilla (if vanilla was the most melancholic ice-cream flavour).

The Dodos turn 10 this year. The San Francisco indie rock duo met through mutual friends in San Francisco’s constant but widening music scene back in 2005. Meric Long was busy drafting lyric sheets and complex guitar parts, while Logan Kroeber was learning how to bring West African Ewe drumming into his rhythms. After a couple of stand-in shows and several jam sessions, the two realized they were more than just compatible - they challenged one another. The Dodos push through their inner turmoil by means of dizzying tempos and layered guitars, much of which recalls their early sound on Visiter. Thee Oh Sees’ Brigid Dawson steps in on closer Pattern Shadows to bring back that album’s feminine allure. The same acoustic guitar from that session comes back out, and its weird, dissonant tuning can be heard in the forefront of Goodbyes and Endings.
