Description

The earlier version of the Never Mind The Bollocks album in the shape of the Spunk album, much rawer of course but, some would say,a much truer reflection o. .

Spunk (Sex Pistols bootleg album). Spunk is a bootleg demo album by the English punk rock band The Sex Pistols. It was originally released in the United Kingdom during September or October 1977. The album comprises studio demos and talking recorded with Dave Goodman during 1976 and early 1977, while original bass player Glen Matlock was still a member of the band.

The Sex Pistols were an English punk rock band that formed in London in 1975. They were responsible for initiating the punk movement in the United Kingdom and inspiring many later punk and alternative rock musicians. Although their initial career lasted just two and a half years and produced only four singles and one studio album, Never Mind the Bollocks, Here's the Sex Pistols, they are regarded as one of the most influential acts in the history of popular music.

Some Sex Pistols fans concur with McLaren – and producer Goodman – that the raw versions of the songs on Spunk are superior to the officially released ones, particularly since Spunk approximates a faithful reproduction of the original Sex Pistols line-up's live sound. The album also features the bass-lines of Glen Matlock, which were not reproduced when guitarist Steve Jones took over bass duties for the recording of Never Mind the Bollocks. Spunk is therefore often cited as the Sex Pistols' de facto alternative debut album. Several songs were presented with incorrect titles (actual titles noted in parentheses below).

The importance of the Sex Pistols- as a symbol, as a lightning rod, as a flashpoint- cannot be overstated. It transcends the songs they performed, the genre they epitomized, the lifestyle they sold to an entire generation. But, of course, there's still the music to consider. As for the actual Spunk tracks, McLaren has publicly expressed a preference for these demos over the more polished Bollocks. He claims they give the listener a better sense of what the band was like live. Given that he's rumored to have played part in releasing this bootleg back in 1977, however, his opinion might be slightly suspect.

All songs written by the Sex Pistols, all songs on the original bootleg album were simply cred to "Spunk". Pictures, videos, biodata, and files relating to Spunk (Sex Pistols bootleg album) are also acceptable encyclopedic sources.

Spunk is a collection of demos recorded with the Pistols original line up, ie with Glen Matlock on bass, between July 1976 and January 1977. It may have originally have been intended as a legitimate release, as the record was certainly pressed by a legitimate pressing plant although eventually emerging as a bootleg. Never Mind the Bollock. ere’s the Sex Pistols. The only studio album they made. The Great Rock n Roll Swindle does not count in my book. And since they only made one studio album there isn't much to choose from! I will say thi.I will take one New York over 10 London Callings. Or even a single Rock the Casbah. Pistols had that raw energy that makes The Clash seem precious to me. The whole Bollocks album is punk through and through however. My hardcore band in the 90s covered Pretty Vacant quite a bit when we played live only we played it quite a bit faster.
