Dirty Harry is an American action film series featuring San Francisco Police Department Homicide Division Inspector "Dirty" Harry Callahan who is notorious for being extremely violent and ruthless in his methods, and a danger for any partner assigned to him. Actor Clint Eastwood portrayed Callahan in all five of the series' films and directed the fourth one.
In Sudden Impact, Harry ends a robbery at his local coffee shop by killing the robbers and saving a hostage held a gun point by echoing the words,"Go ahead, make my da. In The Dead Pool, Harry ends a China Town restaurant robbery with the help of his partner Al Quan. Each Dirty Harry film ends near water. In Dirty Harry, Harry shoots Scorpio and sends his body splashing into the water. In Magnum Force, Harry ends his battle with the two of the vigilante cops on mothballed aircraft carriers in Alameda.
Dirty Harry is a 1971 American action thriller film produced and directed by Don Siegel, the first in the Dirty Harry series. Clint Eastwood plays the title role, in his first outing as San Francisco Police Department (SFPD) Inspector "Dirty" Harry Callahan. The film drew upon the real life case of the Zodiac Killer as the Callahan character seeks out a similar vicious psychopath.
Schwarzenegger said watching Dirty Harry inspired him to seek out action roles with wisecracking heroes who were a law unto themselves. Urich based his portrayal of Dan Tanna in the television show Vega$ (1978) on Clint Eastwood's performance in Dirty Harry, especially his tendency never to get angry or raise his voice. According to Urich, when shooting the pilot, he was very consciously doing an impression of Eastwood having worked with him in Magnum Force (1973). The car chase was used in the subsequent Dirty Harry sequels Magnum Force (1973), Sudden Impact (1983), and The Dead Pool (1988). According to the original script, the phrase that Dirty Harry quotes during both the bank robbery and his final confrontation with Scorpio was not the actual quote for the movie, the actual quote in the script was, "Well? Was it five or was it six?
