Holy Fuck don’t need to play rough to succeed. The sublime Xed Eyes stutters and sways like a Talking Heads track punched up by a glitching robot. Shivering, on the other hand, hits a surprising chill, washes of Northern Lights electronics arcing over-top the bouncy 8-bit stuff, all as an evocative female vocal flutters through the mix. However, the comparison to Liars also highlights how well that band instills drama even into their weaker moments. Though some of the album’s second half wanes into abstraction, the dramatic arc of Congrats both begins and ends with enough strength to keep it from floundering. The one-two punch of Acidic (a club cut punctuated by toy laser gun sounds and clattering percussion) and the sprawling, scrambling Crapture end things on a high note.

Holy Fuck is a Canadian electronica band from Toronto. They were a part of Dependent Music, a music label and artist collective that began in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia in 2004 until its closing. They were then a part of the Young Turks label and in 2016 they signed with Innovative Leisure

Canadian electronic-rock band Holy Fuck are back this spring with a new LP, entitled "Congrats. It is their first LP since their 2010 release Latin, and is due out right at the beginning of Memorial Day weekend, Friday May 27th. The album will be released through Innovative Leisure. The quartet also announced they're playing SXSW, Toronto's Field Trip Festival, and an . show at Los Globos on February 25, as part of a bill chosen by Innovative Leisure for Red Bull Sound Select. In the 2000s, Holy Fuck had a steady release schedule of their fractured electronic pop before disappearing after their third album, 2010’s Latin. Now, the Canadian experimentalists are back with a new album titled Congrats. The record is out May 27 via Innovative Leisure, but for now you can hear the thudding, primal new single ‘Tom Tom’ below.
