Blue Notes is an album by American jazz saxophonist Johnny Hodges and orchestra featuring performances recorded in 1966 and released on the Verve label.

Blue Note Records are designed simply to serve the uncompromising expressions of hot jazz or swing, in general. Any particular style of playing which represents an authentic way of musical feeling is genuine expression. By virtue of its significance in place, time and circumstance, it possesses its own tradition, artistic standards and audience that keep it alive. Agreed, Saxophone Colossus is a great album, one of the all-time classics; however it was not made for Blue Note, but for Prestige, if I remember correctly.

The Blue Notes were formed by Harold Melvin in Philadelphia, PA in 1954. The group, which featured Harold Melvin, Donald Broody and Bernard Williams (3) signed with the small New York-based label Josie Records in 1954. In 1960 under the Val-ue Records label, they went onto record their first hit to reach the R&B charts with the single "My Hero". The group became Harold Melvin And The Blue Notes in the mid-60s; Bernard Williams (3) then formed his own The Original Blue Notes.
