Live at Biko is a live album by American singer-songwriter Mark Kozelek. It was released on July 1, 2014, through Kozelek's own record label Caldo Verde Records. The album was recorded on April 6, 2014 in Biko Club in Milano, Italy. It features live renditions of Sun Kil Moon tracks, as well as selections from Kozelek's respective 2013 collaborative albums with Jimmy LaValle and Desertshore, Perils from the Sea (2013) and Mark Kozelek & Desertshore (2013).

Live at Biko may be proof that Kozelek enjoys putting out as much material as he can in a given year, but it doesn’t come off as redundant. For anyone who missed Kozelek touring behind Benji, this album should come as a welcome treat. It’s the rare live album which makes you regret not being there while also sounding intimate enough for you to transplant yourself into the darklit room in which Kozelek strummed these songs. Sure, it’s not the same as being there, but it feels pretty close. This isn’t Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band here.

Live albums aren’t exactly landmark events for Mark Kozelek. He releases one shortly after just about every record he puts out (as Sun Kil Moon or otherwise), and they’re decidedly minimal - usually just him and an acoustic guitar. So, how you feel about his latest, Live at Biko (recorded at the Milanese venue of the same name), largely depends on how you feel about this year’s Benji. Luckily, Benji happens to be an excellent record. He doesn’t play UK Blues 1 or 2 on Live at Biko, but we get to hear the travel-weary grumpiness (specifically with Europe) exhibited in both of those songs firsthand. He literally stops playing I Love My Dad ( It just sucks in Italy, he half-jokingly grumbles) and even complains about Finnish cuisine in both outlets. I want to thank the people of Biko, he tells the audience before Elaine, the final song of his encore. They’ve been wonderful.

A recording of Mark Kozelek’s Milan performance will be pressed to vinyl for the first time. Recorded in the Italian city during April 2014, Live at Biko is comprised predominantly of material from Kozelek’s morbid Sun Kil Moon project, including a number of tracks from the excellent Benji LP. Live at Biko also includes renditions of cuts from Kozelek’s 2013 collaborations with Desertshore and Jimmy LaValle.
