Jesu, Sun Kil Moon is a collaborative studio album by American indie folk act Sun Kil Moon and British experimental act Jesu, released on January 21, 2016 on Caldo Verde Records and Rough Trade. The album also features guest musicians Will Oldham (. Bonnie "Prince" Billy), members of Low, Rachel Goswell of Slowdive, and Isaac Brock of Modest Mouse. Jesu and Sun Kil Moon including drummer Steve Shelley of Sonic Youth played six shows in February and March 2016 to support the album.

Mark Kozelek opens his newest Sun Kil Moon album, a collaboration with Justin Broadrick working as Jesu, by saying "good morning" before taking us through a number of his days and nights. It's a romantic collection of songs, as well as a tender and sad one, but this time around Kozelek sounds less alone. Even when he has a full band, it can feel like he's playing a guitar by himself in a room, but Jesu/Sun Kil Moon comes off like a true collaboration.

About Jesu, Sun Kil Moon. The first full length collaboration between the two artists, whose styles (spoken word, autobiographical lyrics and experimental rock) appear discordant, but meld beautifully on this record. It was officially announced in April of 2015, and brings to fruition a personal relationship between Mark Kozelek and Jesu frontman Justin Broadrick. Kozelek said: Justin and I met through a mutual friend named Zak Sally, formerly of Low. Justin invited me to see his band Jesu play, with Isis (the band!) at Bimbo’s in San Francisco in 2004, I believe.

It’s gotten to the point that even Mark Kozelek seems like a romantic. The opener to Broadrick and Kozelek’s collaborative album, Good Morning My Love, revolves around the meaning of rekindle, and might be his most sincere acknowledgment of love’s restorative powers. Both are valid arguments, but the latter will sadly miss out on the often beautiful Jesu/Sun Kil Moon. In an interview accompanying the album’s surprise early release, Kozelek tells actor Rainn Wilson he’s glad made it to 48, because every day he gets to wake up next to someone he loves. I love her, and I love making music.
