Jethro Tull - Stormwatch (1979).
DUN RINGILL" is a song from Jethro Tull's twelfth studio album "STORMWATCH" released on September 14th, 1979
Stormwatch is the twelfth studio album by the progressive rock group Jethro Tull, released September 1979. It is considered the last in the trilogy of folk-rock albums by Jethro Tull (although folk music influenced virtually every Tull album to some extent). Among other subject-matters, the album touches heavily on the problems relating to the environment, oil and money.
This is the last Tull album to feature the classic line-up of 1970s. Bassist John Glascock, suffering at this point from the effects of a cardiac infection that eventually led to his death, is only featured on three tracks ( Flying Dutchman, Orion, and Elegy ). Ian Anderson played bass elsewhere on the album while Dave Pegg played on the subsequent tour. The instrumental piece Elegy was written by David Palmer. Dun Ringill is the historic site of an Iron Age fort on the Isle of Skye, which served as the original seat of the Clan MacKinnon.
Jethro Tull's 12th studio album, Stormwatch, concludes with "Elegy," a quiet instrumental of pastoral acoustic guitar and melancholy strings. The title is appropriate. Composed by al arranger David Palmer in honor of his late father, the three-minute piece serves as a gentle swan song for bassist John Glascock, who died from effects of a cardiac infection soon after being dismissed from the band (and only playing on three tracks). But it's also an elegy in a broader sense, a quiet mourning for Tull's classic era - the '70s

It is considered the last in the trilogy of folk-rock albums by Jethro Tull (although folk music influenced virtually every Tull album). Among other subject-matter, the album touches heavily on the problems relating to the environment, oil and money. In 2004, a remastered version of Stormwatch was released with four bonus tracks.
A slightly harder edged Jethro Tull album, with more guitar orientated tracks than we are used to. Anderson's flute, while regularly used of course, is not as dominant as on other Tull albums. A number of the tracks are orchestrated, with the lengthy "Dark ages" in particular benefiting from the rounder sound. Stormwatch" is yet another underrated JETHRO TULL album. This also signaled the end of an era. It would be the last album for the most effective JT lineup.

Stormwatch marked the end of an era in Jethro Tull's history, as the last album on which longtime members Barriemore Barlow, John Evan, and David Palmer participated, and the final appearance of bassist John Glascock, who played on three of the cuts (Anderson supplied the bass elsewhere) and died following open-heart surgery a few weeks after its release.
