A classic written by Ian Anderson. Thick As A Brick (Part 1)" Really don't mind if you sit this one out. My words but a whisper your deafness a SHOUT.
Thick as a Brick is the fifth studio album by the British rock band Jethro Tull, released in March 1972. The album contains a continuous piece of music, split over two sides of an LP record, and is a parody of the concept album genre. The original packaging, designed like a newspaper, claims the album to be a musical adaptation of an epic poem by fictional eight-year-old genius Gerald Bostock, though the lyrics were actually written by the band's frontman, Ian Anderson.
Jethro Tull's first LP-length epic is a masterpiece in the annals of progressive rock, and one of the few works of its kind that still holds up decades later. Mixing hard rock and English folk music with classical influences, set to ess lyrics so dense with imagery that one might spend weeks pondering their meaning - assuming one feels the need to do so - the group created a dazzling tour de force, at once playful, profound, and challenging, without overwhelming the listener.

When, much to Ian Anderson’s chagrin, critics called the band’s 1971 release, Aqualung, a concept album; Anderson decided to respond with the bombastic prog-epic parody, Thick as a Brick. Despite it’s origins, the 44 minute song, the first to take up both sides of a record, proved to be a groundbreaking achievement.
In 1971, Jethro Tull’s Ian Anderson set out with tongue-in-cheek to make the mother of all concept albums. With Thick As A Brick, he ended up fulfilling his ambition – and then some. Jethro Tull in 1972: u201cThick As A Brick was the mother of all concept albumsu201d. I was actually mildly irritated and wryly amused. However much I insisted that Aqualung wasn’t a concept album, the media still persisted in treating it as such. They seemed to believe the whole record was a major religious story. But the rest were stand-alone tracks. So, after this whole scenario, I thought, ‘OK, we’ll not only now do a real concept album, but we’re going to make it the mother of all concept albums!’. Ian Anderson in January 1972.

Thick as a Brick is perhaps Jethro Tull’s definitive progressive rock album. Shop taab on burning shed. Anderson meant for the album to be a send up of rock pretentiousness, critics, and the band itself. The album cover claimed, outrageously enough, that the lyrics had been written by an eight year-old boy, Gerald Bostock, and set to music by the band.
