Yield is the fifth studio album by the grunge band Pearl Jam. This album may not be as grunge as their first 3 albums but it still has some influence from them. Pearl Jam went more in an experimental direction with this one trying to find a new style but still with their grungey roots. This album was said to be better because it went back to the band’s roots in more of a straightforward rock sound. Gossard said about this album’s writing, The songs were a little bit more structured.

Yield is the fifth studio album by the American alternative rock band Pearl Jam, released on February 3, 1998. Following a short promotional tour for its previous album, No Code (1996), Pearl Jam recorded Yield throughout 1997 at Studio Litho and Studio X in Seattle, Washington. The album was proclaimed as a return to the band's early, straightforward rock sound, and marked a more collaborative effort from the band as opposed to relying heavily on frontman Eddie Vedder to compose the songs.

In retrospect, Pearl Jam's Yield is viewed as a positive rebound for the band, both creatively and commercially. While it did not reach the sales heights of the band's first three albums, it did debut at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 Album Chart and went on to be certified platinum by the RIAA. But more importantly for the band's longevity, the Yield sessions reset the way in which Pearl Jam worked and laid the groundwork for fruitful creative ventures to come. Pearl Jam is an American rock band formed in 1990 in Seattle, Washington. Since its inception, the band's line-up has included Eddie Vedder (lead vocals), Mike McCready (lead guitar), Stone Gossard (rhythm guitar), and Jeff Ament (bass guitar). Since 1998, the band has also included drummer Matt Cameron (formerly of Soundgarden). Boom Gaspar (keyboards) has also been a session/touring member with the band since 2002.
